Parent Teacher Conference Update
Well, so far this year, art is being brought to the classrooms “on a cart”. This simply means that I roll into each classroom at the proper time and we do our art project for the week. When the art time is up, I roll my cart out and go on to the next class. Students that are learning virtually, as well as students that are unable to be a part of the art lesson each week, are welcome to check in on what we did each week by going to the website (http://ioniaamp.weebly.com/). The lessons for each week are described there. Here also, is a short description of what we have learned each week so far:
Week 1: We talked with students about expectations in art and created a self-portrait with and without a mask.
Week 2: We read the book Beautiful Oops, talked about how mistakes can be thought of as an opportunity for creativity, to turn an oops into something wonderful. Students were able to put that concept into practice as well.
Week 3: This week we focused on some basic color information like: primary colors, secondary colors, neutral colors, warm and cool colors and the order of the color wheel (also how that order helps us know how to mix the primary colors to make the secondary colors). We also tried to connect those warm/cool colors with some of the emotions/feelings.
Week 4: We read a book called The Dot. We learned from the book how something as small as a dot can be creative and beautiful. How important it is to try our best. We also drew/traced many circles and tried to creatively fill those circles or the spaces around them….
Week 5: This week we read Ish. This book encourages us to build others up in a positive way, to try our best, be creative, and enjoy the process of creating. We then practiced creating our own ish drawings, drawing what we see the best we can without getting too stressed about trying to make our drawings “perfect”.
If you would like to connect with us during our virtual fall conference time, please feel free to email:
